Trail running is more than just a sport, running through nature offers both physical and mental rewards. As the kilometres stretch out in front of you, the need for endurance becomes paramount. For those of us dedicated to this pursuit, long runs and double workouts have become essential components of our training program.
To truly embrace the trail, I often find myself tackling longer distances, with weekend runs stretching to 4 hours or more. These long runs not only build stamina but also provide a time to connect with nature and clear the mind. Backing these runs up with double sessions in a single day helps push my limits even further, preparing me for the challenges ahead.
Nutrition plays a crucial role in sustaining this level of activity. I've ramped up my protein intake to support muscle recovery and have incorporated additional supplements like iron and vitamin D to ensure my body is primed for the demands of long-distance running. Every bit helps when you’re training for something as formidable as the upcoming Two Bays Trail Run—a gruelling 56km course that promises plenty of vertical challenges for even the most seasoned trail runners.
Whether you’re looking for training tips or a group to tackle the trails with, reaching out can make all the difference. Let’s share our passion for trail running and support each other as we prepare to conquer those rugged paths together. Happy trails!
